Kendo Castaneda Tenia Sus Bolsillos Recogidos Por Los Jueces En Florida

KENDO CASTANEDA GETS HIS POCKETS PICKED BY THE JUDGES IN FLORIDA

In what came as no surprise, Kendo Castaneda won seven out of ten rounds but still lost by majority decision to Yomar Alamo and the judges in Kissimmee, Florida, who may not have been watching the same fight as the rest of the world.

Final scores of 98-92, 99-93, for Alamo would have been comical had a young, unbeaten prospect in Castaneda not been denied the victory he clearly earned by controlling the action, setting the pace of the bout, and landing not only more punches in almost every round, but also the hardest punches in every round except for maybe the first and tenth. The one judge that scored the bout 95-95 was the only judge that turned in a score that could at least be justified if one tried hard enough, but even he was clearly favoring Alamo, who never landed more than one or two punches before RUNNING away as if he stole something from Castaneda.

The judges, crowd, and Telemundo commentators seemed to take Castaneda’s gassing towards the late rounds as an indication that Alamo was winning those rounds, but Alamo was gassed as well and never took control of the bout, seemingly more concerned with surviving than winning a boxing match. Don’t get me wrong, Castaneda did walk right into Alamo’s jabs more often than not, but he landed plenty of his own jabs and way more combinations. Castaneda also hurt Alamo several times and got the better of the majority of the exchanges the fighters had in the late rounds, when Alamo was too tired to keep up his sprinting around the ring.

Castaneda didn’t turn in a master class in boxing by any stretch, as he got reckless at times and took punches he didn’t have to take, and didn’t seem to realize that his jabs, along with the straight right to Alamo’s body, were the key to his hurting Alamo and trapping him on the ropes. Despite those mistakes, Castaneda still did more than Alamo, who should get a running shoe sponsorship after the performance he put in last night.

Commentator Abner Mares should be ashamed of himself for scoring the bout for Alamo on his unofficial scorecard, and the official judges that turned in scores of 98-92 and 99-93 should never score another professional boxing match again until they recieve some proper training.

CECELIA BRAEKHUS vs JESSICA MCCASKILL

Undisputed World Welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus will defend her titles against unified Super-Lightweight champion Jessica McCaskill at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland on Friday April 17, live on DAZN.

Braekhus (36-0 9 KOs) will put her 147lbs belts on the line for the tenth time having claimed all the straps in September 2014, and victory for the ‘First Lady’ will see the Norwegian sensation break Joe Louis record of 25 consecutive World title defenses, with the 38 year old’s record stretching back to her first World title fight in her 11thpro outing in March 2009.

McCaskill (8-2 3 KOs) will be desperate to snap that streak in Maryland though, and the Chicago star has undoubtably been one of the great success stories in the last year of women’s boxing. ‘CasKILLA’ bounced back from a close loss to then-WBA World champion Katie Taylor in London in December 2017 to win the WBC Super-Lightweight crown in October 2018 on her home turf and then unified the division in Maryland in May 2019.

Pound-for-pound star Braekhus will be out to make history on the night but McCaskill can become a two-weight World champion and continue her phenomenal run of form in this standout fight on the undercard of the clash of former World Super-Lightweight champions Regis Prograis and Maurice Hooker.

“I’m very excited to battle Jessica McCaskill on April 17,” said Braekhus. “She is a unified World champion and a formidable opponent for me. However, following my victory in November I only took a short time off from training and will be well prepared for this very tough challenge.

“Thanks very much to my team for their efforts in bringing me this opportunity and to my fans all over the world, I can’t wait to put on a great show for you in Maryland.”

“This is a fight I wanted,” said McCaskill. “I want to fight the biggest names and the best fighters. Nothing less. My name is up there with the best in female history and I want to continue on that path. Every time I fight its exciting and not only for female boxing but for boxing – period.”

“This is a fantastic fight on what is going to be another brilliant night of boxing on DAZN,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “Cecilia is one of the greatest female fighters of all time and still the ‘First Lady’ has huge ambitions to achieve even more greatness in the sport.

“But what a breakthrough star Jessica has become since landing her World title in Chicago – it’s been a fairytale rise and she wants to go onto achieve greatness like her foe in Maryland. Jessica always brings it on the night and victory over Cecilia would top everything she has done so far, and that’s saying something.

Kendo ‘Tremendo’ Castaneda Set To Face Yomar ‘Magic’ Alamo in Enemy Territory

San Antonio native Kendo “Tremendo” Castaneda (17-0 with 8 KO’s) is one of the best talents fighting out of San Antonio at the moment, but his name isn’t as well known as some of the other prospects who fight out of and represent “San Anto” for whatever reason.

This comes through no fault of his own, as he is a skillful boxer/puncher, who has shown the ability and willingness to fight the best in the junior-welterweight division, with his last three bouts/wins coming over contenders Gilbert Venegas Jr, Eudy Bernardo, and Stan Martyniouk, who were (10-0), (24-3) and (20-2) at the time he faced them.

Well schooled technically with fast hands, good footwork and great balance, Castaneda won the WBA/ NABA super-lightweight title in his 2018 win over Venegas, and he’s looking to take Yomar Alamo’s WBO/NABO junior-welterweight title on Friday night in Kissimmee, Florida.

The 10-round bout will take place at the Osceola Heritage Park Events Center in Kissimmee, Florida. The fight will be 2020’s first telecast of the popular Spanish-language “Boxeo Telemundo” and is being promoted by All Star Boxing and Roy Jones Jr Promotions (Telemundo, 10:35 p.m. CT).

The fight between Alamo (17-0-1 with 12 KO’s) and Castaneda will be another chapter of the long rivalry between fighters from Puerto Rico and Mexico. It is a pairing with a lot on the line that All Star Boxing’s promoter Tuto Zabala Jr. anticipates will produce an action-packed fight.

“These two fighters know, in order to get a title fight in one of boxing’s best divisions, you must risk it all to get to the top,” said Zabala. “Both have undefeated records. This is the type of fight that makes me feel proud of, as a promoter, a true 50/50 fight. May the best man win.”

Yomar Alamo, WBO/NABO Junior-Welterweight Champion

This will be Alamo’s fifth straight fight in Kissimmee and fourth straight at Osceola Heritage Park, where Friday’s fight will be held. Alamo is promoted by All Star Boxing and he enjoys a virtual hometown advantage in Kissimmee, Florida, where he’s been very active lately.

Castaneda, who is signed by Roy Jones Jr Promotions, is seemingly aware that he’s unlikely to win by decision in Florida, telling reporters earlier this week that he’s seeking a knockout win.

“I plan to knock him (Alamo) out, take him out and keep the knockout streak going,” said Castaneda, who stopped his last opponent Martyniouk by TKO in six rounds, after administering a clinical beating. “This guy is saying he’s ready for 20 rounds with me. I’m ready for 100 rounds all the way.”

“Alamo got a draw in his last fight, I have no draws on my record,” Castaneda said. “I’m just flawless. I’m just here to collect victories. I’m just here to let people in the boxing world know that I’m tremendous, I’m tremendously tough to beat, I’m too tremendous to deal with and I’m coming to put on a good show in Florida.”

“I’m going to win all the fans over there after this showdown,” Castaneda added.

In an under-card special attraction, Christian “MC” Camacho (8-1-1 with 1 KO), son of the late Hector “Macho” Camacho, will be competing in a six round, featherweight bout.

Julio Cesar Martinez vs Jay Harris

World Boxing Council flyweight champion, Julio César “Rey” Martínez, will defend his crown against Welsh wizard  Jay Harris, in Frisco, Texas, this Saturday, with live broadcast by DAZN in the United States and in Sky Sports in the United Kingdom.

“Rey” Martinez has done a strenuous preparation in San Diego, California, in the gymnasium of the “Canelo” Alvarez, carefully supervised by his coach Mauricio Aceves and his representative Eddy Reynoso.

This will be the first defense of the world title Rey  won by defeating Nicaraguan Cristofer Rosales and he`s OK with the fact that Harris will be his third opponent from the UK.

Harris (17-0 9 KOs) is an undefeated Welshman who comes from a great victory. The 29-year-old fighter traveled to Belfast last October and defeated thrice Olympian Paddy Barnes in four rounds, so he`s ready to contest the WBC world title.

This could potentially be the fight of the night as Martinez is an aggressive yet technical champion in his prime, and his opponent Harris, is a hungry, strong kid, who proved in his thrashing of Barnes, that he’s not easily intimidated by titles, previous accomplishments etc.

MIKEY GARCIA BRINGS ANOTHER BIG FIGHT TO TEXAS

After losing his initial try at winning a welterweight title last year to Texan Errol Spence Jr, Mikey Garcia (39-1, 30 KO’s) is returning to The Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, to battle Jessie “The Pride of Las Vegas” Vargas (29-2-2, 11 KO’s) this Saturday, February 29, for the WBC Welterweight Diamond Belt.

The card, live-streamed by DAZN, is being promoted by Matchroom Boxing and will also feature Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez vs Kal Yafai for the WBA Super-Flyweight title and WBC World Flyweight Champion, Julio Cesar Martinez vs European Champion Jay Harris, for Martinez’s WBC World Flyweight title.

Although things didn’t go as planned for Garcia when he challenged Spence last year, he and his team have been vocal about their appreciation for Texas and it’s fans, and are backing up their words by bringing another high profile match-up to our state.

Garcia has also been busy as a promoter, helping to give Dallas area and Texas talent a platform to perform and a place to develop, by staging his Mikey Garcia Promotions fight cards in the Dallas area, as he will once again do on Friday February 28, at The Southern Junction Night Club in Irving, Texas. That show will feature Shurretta Mercalf, Jordan Jones, Saul Rodriguez, and the professional debut of one of Houston’s top amateurs as of late, Oscar Perez.

Come out to Dallas this weekend and enjoy watching some great local talent perform on Friday night, then watch the stars do their thing on Saturday night. If you can’t make it out, you can watch the Garcia vs Vargas card live on DAZN.
